Features
A real kit to start with, and plenty of ways to make it yours.
The kit
You start with an eight-piece kit: kick, snare, two toms, a floor tom, hi-hat, crash, and ride, laid out like a standard right-handed setup.
- Velocity-sensitive hits: swing harder for a louder sound.
- Your controllers vibrate when a stick connects.
- Pass-through protection, so one swing does not trigger the drum underneath.
- An open hi-hat you control with a button, and a kick that does not need a pedal.
- A hold mode for the kick: hold the kick button and it plays with every drum hit, so you never have to time it separately.
Build your own kit
- Grab any piece with a stick and carry it where you want it.
- Resize, tilt, and roll each piece.
- Add toms, floor toms, hi-hats, crashes, splashes, chinas, rides, and a cowbell, up to 16 pieces.
- Save five setups with your own names.
Looks and rooms
- Twelve shell colors, four head colors, and three finishes.
- Cymbals in brass, bronze, chrome, or black.
- Stick and tip colors, tip size, and an outline so tips stay visible against white drum heads.
- Four rooms: Stage, Studio, Club, and Garage, with adjustable brightness.
- Hit ripples and drum glow you can change or turn off.
Sound
- Separate levels for drums, cymbals, and kick, plus a master volume.
- Pitch, decay, and tone for each piece.
- Drum boost, which raises only the drums, so you can hear them over music from another app.
- A boom control that adds low-end weight as you swing harder.
- Recording: tap Record on the menu’s home screen and play. Opening the menu stops and saves the take. Replay it inside DRUM VR, or download the audio as a WAV file from DrumVR.com/recordings in your headset’s browser.
- Adjustable room reverb and echo, both off by default.
- A sound check row in every menu tab, so you can hear changes without leaving the menu.
The drums are synthesized in the browser, which keeps the page small and the response quick.
Rhythm helper
Play over a steady beat while you focus on the rest of the kit.
- Tempo from 40 to 220 BPM, with tap tempo.
- Eight patterns: Click 4/4, Click 3/4, Cowbell, Hi-hat 8ths, Rock beat, Four on the floor, Half-time, and Shuffle.
- An optional count-in bar and a beat light that pulses on the floor around the kit.
- Start and stop from the menu, or with a thumbstick click if you turn that on.
Left-handed, right-handed, seated
- Flip the whole kit with one button. The hi-hat button follows the side the hi-hat is on.
- Choose which button and which hand play the kick and hi-hat. DRUM VR warns you if two controls share a button.
- Swing calibration: play five soft hits and five hard hits and DRUM VR sets your quietest and loudest sound to match, with a dynamic feel control for how much louder a hard hit is.
- Auto height sets the kit from where your head is.
Presets
Eleven built-in presets get you going in one tap. Five are setups: Right-handed, Left-handed, Seated, Small space, and Beginner. Six are genres, each with its own kit, sound character, effects, and a starting rhythm: Rock, Jazz, Funk, Hip-hop, Metal, and Electronic. Your own presets save your layout and settings together.
