How it works
DRUM VR is a drum kit that lives in a web page. Open it in your VR headset’s browser, enter VR, and play with your controllers.
What you need
- A VR headset with a web browser that supports WebXR. See the supported headsets.
- Two tracked controllers. DRUM VR uses the trigger, grip, thumbstick, and face buttons.
- Enough open space to swing your arms without hitting anything.
- An internet connection the first time you open the page.
Start playing in four steps
- Open DrumVR.com in your headset’s web browser. Open the link directly, not inside a preview window, so the browser can start VR.
- Tap Enter VR at the top of the page. Your browser may ask for permission to enter VR. Allow it.
- Look at the kit and swing. The sticks you see follow your controllers. Swing down through a drum or cymbal to play it.
- Open the menu to make it yours. Rest a stick on the glowing pad beside the kit for one second.
Sound starts when you tap Enter VR. Browsers only allow audio after a tap, so if you hear nothing, exit and tap Enter VR again.
Play safely. Clear your play area, take breaks, and stop if you feel unwell. Read the safety guidance before you play.
Controls
These are the defaults. You can change the kick and hi-hat buttons in the menu.
| Action | Default control | Change it |
|---|---|---|
| Hit a drum or cymbal | Swing a stick down through it. A harder swing sounds louder. | Controls > Feel |
| Kick drum | Squeeze a grip on either hand | Controls > Buttons |
| Open hi-hat | Hold a trigger on the hand nearest the hi-hat | Controls > Buttons |
| Kit height | Right thumbstick up or down | Kit tab, or Auto height |
| Kit distance | Left thumbstick forward or back | Kit tab |
| Open the menu | Rest a stick on the glowing pad for one second, or hold any face button (A, B, X, or Y) for three seconds | Pad side in the Kit tab |
| Click in the menu | Point with a stick like a wand, then pull the trigger or press A or X | — |
| Close the menu | Press B or Y, or use the Close button | — |
The menu
The menu opens on a home screen. At the top is a quick strip with master volume, drum boost, rhythm start and tempo, and a sound check for each drum. Below it are tiles for each area. Tap a tile and its page opens. Long pages scroll with the thumbstick, or with the arrows at the top. Press B or Y to go back one step, and again to close.
- Sound: volume levels, drum boost and boom, reverb and echo.
- Controls: which buttons play the kick and hi-hat, plus sensitivity, swing calibration, timing, stick length and angle, and vibration.
- Look: kit colors and finishes, stick and tip colors, rooms, and hit effects.
- Rhythm: a steady beat to play along to, with tempo, tap tempo, and eight patterns.
- Kit: height and distance, edit the layout, and add pieces.
- Presets: ready-made setups, genre kits, and five slots for your own.
- Recordings: record what you play, replay it, and keep up to 20 takes.
- Help: a quick reference, an estimate of sound delay, and where to manage your saved settings.
Drum hits are off while the menu is open, but every volume and sound change plays a short sample so you can hear it right away.
Tips for a comfortable setup
- Use Auto height in the Kit tab to set the kit from where your head is, then fine-tune with the sliders.
- Sitting? Apply the Seated preset in Presets.
- Short on room? Try the Small space preset or push the kit closer with the left thumbstick.
- If the stick tips are hard to see, change the tip color in Look > Sticks.
If something is not working
- There is no Enter VR button, or it says VR is not available. Your browser does not report VR support. Open the link directly in your headset’s browser.
- No sound. Check your headset volume, then exit and tap Enter VR again.
- Hits do not register or fire early. Adjust Sensitivity and Timing assist in Controls > Feel.
- Sound feels late. The Info tab shows an estimate. Wireless audio devices can add delay, so try the headset’s own speakers or a wired option.
